From Baby to Preschooler

Our baby S.Jessen

I am not quite sure how this has happened, but my little baby is now, sort of, a big boy! He will always be my baby though. They know at such a young age. He has been telling Daddy for days that he is going to preschool and Mommy will be so sad. I am officially not sad! I just don't know where the time went!

This post will be in two parts. The first is preschool open house and the second is the first day of preschool.

Open House, for the parents, was a week ago and I felt so overwhelmed! I was so scared about the idea of S.Jessen working on sticker for a good day and not getting it if he was misbehaving! I am a teacher and understand the concept, but you tell your 3-year-old why he didn't get a sticker and see how it feels!

Anyway, this Tuesday, we had an open house for S.Jessen. He had to do a scavenger hunt to find out where things are in the room. For example, can you find where I will be washing my hands? We found the cutest, sweetest, one foot tall toilets and sinks! S.Jessen was so excited he whipped his pants off right there. As he was peeing he's saying, "Mommy, this is so cute!" He loved it! His teacher reassured us as we were leaving that she would love him and take care of him and I did feel a lot better about leaving him, but he is our first!

Look how little he is in front of the door!I know. I may get in trouble for this one, but look how he's got his standing up position down!

Look at the child-sized sinks next to the adult-sized ones!

Well, we survived the first day of preschool. In fact it was the day that every Mommy hopes for (well this Mommy anway). He went, he didn't cry, and came out saying he learned about God. Now that I'm working Roger is responsible for the dropping off and picking up. This works so well AND for he and S.Jessen to have this time one-on-one time together is unforgetable!

He is so proud!

As I was driving S.Jessen to "work" this morning, my heart was a little sad, but excited for him and his big day. I was worried about whether he would be scared and then whether he would listen and if he would feel abandoned, do I need to go on? But he did so good! Roger said at one point, S.Jessen was like, "Are you leaving me here?" and the next moment he was giving Roger the biggest, biggest hug and kiss bye bye and saying I love you and see you soon! That so would not have gone that way if I was responsible for the drop off... He had the greatest day ever! And he did get his sticker :)

Tate is in for his own adventure as being all alone at daycare. He did fine, but did not see S.Jessen leave either... Mommy holding on so tightly!

Uncle Adam Goes to College

Before school started a few weeks ago, our little family decided to go check out by brother Adam's new dorm at Iowa State. So we had to drag our Hawkeye bottoms onto the enemie's turf, but decided it was an all right place for Adam to be. Thank goodness we went when all the moving in was done as two little boys in a less than 12 by 12 room for any amount of time longer than 5 minutes is too long. Good luck at college, Adam! He's already made his way to the Fort to get his laundry done! We are so excited he is only an hour away from us now.

August in Review

As I look back at the month's pics, I realize that I have been very blessed to capture some great, snuggly moments with the boys. They are enjoying each other so much and playing together all the time now. I thought I'd post them :)

S.Jessen will begin preschool tomorrow. Tomorrow's post will be about that... Tate is starting to be more clear with his words and really growing up on us, too. As visions of babies dance through my head. We are really trying to wait until next year to bring the next Baby Brecht into the world.

On a different note, school is going very well. Both boys are happy and enjoy going to work... I still miss them dearly, but know that in a couple of years, I will be with them all of the time. I really do enjoy teaching, too.

Back to School

The boys went back to fulltime daycare today. Tate is really the only one crying now. S.Jessen has told me he will take care of his brother. I feel my job (teaching) is one of the best mommy jobs to have because I can pick them up by 4 and have holidays off, but it's truly a tease to the boys (and me) to be done going to work from May 24 to August 15! Now S.Jessen is going to preschool in two weeks and Tate doesn't understand why I am leaving him. The first few weeks are going to be rough on all of us. I love my job at school, but none is better than being their mommy :) Not trying to complain because I do get all that time with them, but I really miss them. Starting my second year of teaching is rather exciting though, too! I know so much more this year, than last year!

We enjoyed our summer. We didn't go too far. The boys and I did travel to Arkansas with my Mom and brother Adam, but as a family we just stuck around the Fort :) It was nice and relaxing and the boys and I really got reacquainted. I got many things done on my "to do" list. I almost have my pictures ordered through 2007. One more month left, Tater's first birthday and Christmas! That'll be a big one.

Anyway, I'm not sure how often anyone checks these, but it will be a little while before I get back to it as I've got to get my classroom straightened out and all that good stuff!

Precious Gifts Meet Happy Fanily

Last Tuesday, our friend Jenni Bennesh took the plunge and drove her kids on the longest drive they'd ever been on. They travelled to Fort Dodge, to see us! We don't get too many visitors in the big city of Fort Dodge and it made us feel really good that Jenni would drive all this way with her three peanuts to see us just for an afternoon.

I was so excited to meet Jaden, Skylar, and Cael. I've been looking at their pictures for so long and it was really fun to see how sweet they really are. Jenni handles being a mom of three so easily. I seriously wanted to go out and get pregnant the same day! Of course Roger brought me back to reality, but I am less scared of having three now and think it might not even be bad to have twins next :) If Roger is reading this, he's just passed out!

Anyway, the kids had an awesome time. They played really nice together, aside from S.Jessen truly being three and being a stinker a few times. They played in the living room, outside, in the basement, and even in the Hawekeye Room! Other people's toys are so fun.

Thanks for bringing the kids Jenni. You are a super Mommy! Your babes are adorable and sweet. We'll see you in a few weeks!

Here the kids are playing in the sprinkler. They really loved running through it and trying to drink from it.
