Sometimes I forget who I am talking to...

So the other night, S.Jessen needed me to come rock him well after bed time. I was walking in feeling quite needed and happy. We rocked and I asked him, "Do you love your life?" (already I hear the duh! in my head, but it was a happy moment...)

S.Jessen said, "Yes, I do." I told him I loved mine, too. Then! He went on to tell me, "Mine is green, it's in the freezer, and it makes my mouth feel all better." Now, if you are anything like me at all a huge WHAT? just went through your head or even came out of your mouth. I had to back track, thinking what on Earth is he talking about? It all came back...

A year ago, S.Jessen chipped a tooth on our steel bathtub. Every time after that, when he would play with my nephews, his lip would bust open from the jagged tooth. (Eventually the dentist had me file it down and no more blood, but back to the story). My sister-in-law Ayla brought him a teething ring from the freezer and I said, "That was a life-saver!" Forever more, a frozen teething ring has been called a "life". Does it all make sense?

Why in the world I thought a 3-year-old could have a deep conversation about loving his "life" is beyond me. I was caught up in a lovable moment and ended up almost peeing my pants!

This is no different than our trip a month ago when S.Jessen told me he needed a drink and I said he needed to say one more thing and he said, "One more thing." I was so baffled I didn't even know what he said. I was expecting a please and got exactly what I asked for.
I really am in trouble some day. Just look at his face! He is a rascal and so endearing all at that the same time. Guess we'll just keep on loving him and wait for the next funny thing...if only I had time to write them all down :)

Tate is not too far behind S.Jessen for being rascally either. Check out the face that Roger caught him making! He just looks like he is cooking up trouble. This is also where he brews a messy diaper for me. They both did this. S.Jessen always said he was, "sitting on the stool" and Tate has followed in his footsteps. Hopefully he will potty train earlier than S.Jessen did.

I can only imagine what the two of them will cook up together... and I am not talking about dirty diapers :)

7 Years

Here are a couple pics of the boys being best friends and with their Daddy. I love them so much and they are so photogenic some times! It's been fun capturing their faces.

We spent Saturday in Cedar Falls visiting my Aunt Elaine and her kids. Here is a pic of my brother Aron's boys (Isaac and Luke) with my boys (S.Jessen and Tate). I'm so excited for them to finally be able to play together. They froze their little humpies off in that sprinkler, but they had a lot of fun!

This was the seventh anniversary of when we lost my brother Seth. Time does go by so fast. Some times it doesn't feel that long, like it happened just yesterday. Other times it feels like it has been a lifetime ago. I sure wish these boys could have met him...

How old are the boys?

I forgot. If you don't know how old my boys are right now, S.Jessen is 3 years 2 months and Tater is 17 months.

Rainy Day

It's a rainy day so S.Jessen is teaching Tater to do the shape sorter blocks. He did the circles on the first try, yea! I thought it was going to be a hectic day with library story time this morning and swim lessons tonight, but apparently story time doesn't start for 2 weeks. That will be nice. Swim lessons will be over by then. Tate keeps calling me Sarah and it is so funny! I really am ready for Mama though. He says it, but he says Sarah more. Yes, I noticed the date on my pics is wrong again. My camera keeps resetting. At least this time it is the right month!

Looking on the Brighter Side

There is always a brighter side...if you choose to find it.

Who can get annoyed with the train that is keeping us from getting where we need to be when you can see all the colors of each car?

Who can be annoyed with clouds when you can just take a hand fan and try to blow them away?

Who can keep a straight face when their child is supposed to be in bed and he comes out with a booger on his finger that is keeping him from sleeping? Hey! He didn't eat it.

When you look at your baby and see the new face he's learned how to make, it may not be the cutest one he's every made, but it certainly will make you smile and laugh because he is so silly! Now just say "aye, yi, yi" and you will hopefully be able to visualize what I am seeing.

These boys make my heart very happy. They really are rascals, but I love them because they are and because they are beautiful, and mine and Roger's.

They are teaching me to try to look on the brighter side daily. I may have the summer off, but I have already learned so much!

Happy Fanily

So I called this blog "Happy Fanily" because any time our son S.Jessen is happy or we are doing something fun and his cup runneth over... he says, "We're a happy fanily!" We are a "happy fanily" and now I can share more about us... when I have time or make time. I was just making sure everyone knows that this teacher can spell "family" correctly.

This is a pic of the four of us in Madison. We went to visit our friends Matt, Beth, Lily, and Eliese. Ignore the date on the pic. It drives me nuts that I didn't notice it before the pics were taken.
